The Pacific Ocean has an area of 180
million sq km and only a few decades means of transport
and telecommunications of advanced industrial society made
it possible to "dominate" this immense
portion of the earth's surface.
The land gather in the southeast quadrant next to Asia, the
total area fails to reach 9 million square kilometres: the
continent alongside Australian New Guinea and Tasmania, while
isolated in ieno oeano are also two large islands that form
the 'Archipelago of New Zealand.
The other lands, grouped
under the names of Melanasia and Polynesia, are
scattered archipelagos. |
